Anchor Organizations

AppleTree Educational Center
County
Served: Socorro
Region: Southwestern
Website:
http://www.appletreeeducation.org/
AppleTree's mission is to meet the
need of the whole child including family and
community. Since establishing in 1999, our
organization and services have expanded to include
family support services, educational services for
families and staff, and community
education/development projects. Although our primary
focus is birth through 12 years, we realize the
importance of creating positive development and
systems change at a county, regional and state
level. Youth receive unique experiences through our
Summer At-Risk Youth Program which targets ages 13
to 15. Additionally, we serve students through our
private school up to grade 7; adding one grade per
year. We have been active in several state wide
incentives and feel a partnership with New Mexico
forum for youth is a perfect fit with our
organization.
AppleTree has had a YCC
grant, established Early childhood classes for dual
credit at the High School, is a OJT site for WIA
youth, and provides volunteers and tech training and
assistance for local youth serving agencies.

Region:
North Western
Website:
http://www.infoway.org/TeenZone/RegionalPointOrganization.asp
The Farmington Public Libraries
provide materials and service to help community
residents obtain information meeting their personal,
educational, and professional needs. Special
emphasis is placed on community literacy projects,
supporting students at all academic levels and on
stimulating interests and appreciation for reading
and learning. The libraries serve as learning and
educational centers for all residents of the
community. The Farmington Public Library serves as
one of the 10 RPO's supporting a statewide youth
development regional infrastructure for NM through
the NM Forum for Youth in Community. It is through
this forum that we are able to provide youth events,
trainings, and resources for the youth in our
community. The Farmington Public Library maintains
a community youth events calendar to assure youth
and community involvement. Three Farmington Library
highlights:
-
The
"Get Real Teen Summit"

Juan County and provides leadership activities
and workshops throughout the day.

recommend and review materials, and suggest ways
in which teens can become involved and enhance

Pueblo of Laguna
Department of Education and Partners for Success
County Served: Cibola
Region:
Northwestern
Website:
http://www.ldoe.org/
The Laguna Department of Education
established Partners for Success through the Indian
Employment, Training and Related Services
Demonstration Act, Public Law 102-477. Five programs
were consolidated to form PFS: Workforce Investment
Act (WIA), Johnson O'Malley (JOM), Adult Education,
Employment Assistance, and Higher Education. By
applying PL 102-477, PFS increases the effectiveness
and efficiency of these programs. The law gives
tribes the opportunity to consolidate their
federally-funded programs into one fully-integrated
program to allow for greater flexibility in the
delivery of services. One advantage of this
consolidation is that tribal members no longer have
to apply to separate program to obtain the services
they need. The Pueblo of Laguna is the first tribe
in New Mexico to become a 477 participant. Partners
for Success believe that employment, in great
measure, defines individuals and their place in the
family, community, and society. We believe
developing a partnership with participants is vital
to realizing their potential, and that participation
will impact positively on individuals, their
families and the Laguna community.

The
Wellness Coalition (TWC) is an association of
service providers and county health councils in the
four county area of southwestern New Mexico. It was
founded to provide resources to providers and health
councils and assist them in addressing their goals
and priorities with a regional, collaborative
perspective. TWC also functions increasingly as a
voice for the southwestern part of the state, which
is chronically under-represented in statewide
initiatives. Members of TWC include a wide variety
of agencies working with youth or addressing issues
affecting youth in our area. All of the county
health councils represented in TWC have recognized
the need to address youth issues in a collaborative
manner inclusive of youth stakeholders.

¡Youthworks!
Counties
Served: Santa Fe and Central
Region:
Northeastern
YouthWorks is an evolving youth development
organization developed four and a half years ago to
address the lack of a youth development agency in
Santa Fe. Our programs include classroom based
prevention education, intervention services such as
violence intervention for promotion of school campus
peace, conflict resolution services, crisis
intervention and peer mediation training, counseling
services: one on one, group counseling, gender and
age based counseling services; paid employment
training with job-outplacement assistance, youth
advocacy, whole-school leadership activities and
events scholarship programs and emergency funds for
youth in crisis of school drop-out; we work directly
with the Santa Fe Juvenile Probation Office to
assist youth in need, and often employ youth who
have been adjudicated or are in the process of
adjudication. YouthWorks holds a number of contracts
with the Santa Fe Public Schools for teacher
trainings on proper classroom management, prevention
education curriculum, violence prevention training,
bullying prevention, mediation training and
supervision, and other programs such as summer
school remediation, suspension programs that feature
YouthWorks Life Skills Training, and we are hired to
design and consult on programs by many agencies.
YouthWorks participates on numerous school and
community policy setting panels and task forces to
advocate for the health, welfare and fair treatment
of children and youth in the area. YouthWorks is
eager to participate as the Forum for Youth's Santa
Fe based RPO; it is a great fit for us.
