Plenary Speakers

Irene Oliver-Lewis

Executive Artistic Director and Founder

Alma d'arte Charter School and

Court Youth Center, Las Cruces, NM

Las Cruces-born Irene Oliver-Lewis has been involving children with the arts for the past 30 years in Hatch, Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Irene is receiving recognition throughout the state and the nation for her innovative work in integrating the arts into in-school and out-of-school curricula and programming. Irene, who has been practicing Positive Youth Development before the term was invented, will kick off the 2007 Youth Practitioners Summit.

Kathleen Boutin

Founder & Director

Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth

Kathleen's own experience as a runaway youth led her to become a full-time advocate for homeless youth. Her organization engages homeless youth and provides them with the resources they need to make a successful transition into the community and to adulthood. When she recognized the need for policy changes in Nevada's emancipation statutes, she added "lobby the state legislature" to her long to-do list. Kathleen will close the 2007 Youth Practitioners Summit with her inspiring story.
